Travel: Osaka/Kyoto

So this trip happened months ago but I’ve been so busy moving (yes y’all, I moved to Tokyo!) that I didn’t get a chance to post yet. Here are some of the few pictures I got to take. Surprisingly most of the them were taken at Kyoto station where I was for a job interview. Despite all of the beautiful shrines and temples Kyoto has to offer, all I explored was the station haha. Anyway, enjoy the photos and I’ll be posting an apartment tour (I promise) as soon as I am moved in and settled into my new place! Cheers

Travel: Little Big World Museum of Man

Today, I had the opportunity to visit one of the most unique museums I’ve ever seen, with one of my awesome students! This outdoor museum has traditional homes from all over the world, from countries like Burkina Faso, Italy, Peru and Indonesia. There were a lot of great gift shops, where I was able to enjoy a bit of Christmas shopping, while also picking up some souvenirs for myself. I really enjoyed the Peru landlord structure the most and the murals and furniture were absolutely a dream. Here are some photos I took, enjoy!

Travel: Higashiyama Zoo

Last weekend, i visited the Higashiyama Zoo, which is about 30 minutes away from my house. The animals were captivating and I enjoyed getting to see them, but the experience was also very uncomfortable because everyone there was staring at me. I began to feel like an animal myself, and the last straw was someone taking a picture OF ME. I was so stunned I didn’t know what to do and how to react, but I was so angry afterward, I left. I know living abroad can be a dream for many but being a woman of color, especially a black woman, I feel so out of place and isolated sometimes. I’m taking living in Japan as a learning experience that I know will make me stronger for my future wherever I end up. Anyway, here are some pics of the lovely animals!

Travel: Utsumi Beach

Last month I visited my friend Aileen at Utsumi Bech, which is just a ten minute walk from her house. It was an interesting experience to say the least, with Japanese beach-goers laughing at me every time I walked by them (a couple Japanese friends I went with apologized for their behavior and said they laughed because they thought I was “cool”) and one of Aileen’s guests punching a man in the face for being disrespectful towards us. Even with all this craziness, I still had  good time and enjoyed the water and scenery. Here are some pictures I took!

OOTD: I’m wearing pants

Recently I had a day off from work to show my boyfriend around Nagoya. We went to the Nagoya city art museum where we took some cool pictures in this exhibit. Take a look at my outfit! Despite the pictures I AM indeed wearing pants 😜

Travel: Hong Kong

First I would like to preface this post by saying I am so proud of myself for travelling on my own for the first time ever! It was a learning experience and I learned a lot about myself and what I am capable of. The trip had some down points including locals taking pictures of me without my permission (I can deal with the stares but come on wtf…) and cab drivers refusing me service most likely because of the color of my skin. Despite these experiences, I met a few great people in my short time in Hong Kong and had some memorable moments while in Asia’s global city. Here are just a few pictures from my trip!
