On March 11th, I did something I had been dreading for months: Cutting all of my hair off. I was very apprehensive about this because I have been conditioned to think short hair is “mannish” and I had never thought I would look good with it. But alas, I’m getting older and starting to disregard tired standards of beauty and the irrelevant opinions others may have about my appearance. This led me to going to a salon and cutting off most of my hair. At first glance of myself after the finished product, I was horrified; I immediately felt completely unattractive but over the next few days these feelings subsided and I began to embrace the new look. I think it brings me a new edge and my face is the first thing you see :). Anyway lets get into the reasons:
1) It was severely uneven: There were parts of my hair that were past my shoulder and others that were two inches long. The excess just had to go
2) I wanted to have a hairstyle that would easily fit under my wig: I am getting a wig made for my new job in Japan and having to learn how to cornrow my own hair was going to be too difficult due to the unevenness of my hair so I decided cutting was the best decision.
3) Lastly I wanted to try something new. I wanted to be able to wear my natural hair (just to be clear I have been natural since I was 17) and for it to look neat and like I had an actual hairstyle. Before my hair looked unkempt and oddly shaped (in its wash and go state) but it feels great having all my hair the same length
Anyway I’m still getting used to it but I’m really starting to like it and I’m glad that I don’t feel the need to hide behind extensions. Check out some photos of my new hair below!
Last weekend I visited my little sister at her apartment in DC. She’s there all summer working and living there for free so naturally I’m jealous lol (she’s only a ten minute walk from Buffalo Exchange 😔). Here’s what I wore on our outing of shopping.
Crop Top: Wet Seal
Side Note: on our way back from shopping my shoe came apart. Luckily we were by a public library and I help it together with rubber bands supplied by the librarian. I immediately changed into my Docs when we got back, but good news: I had it fixed at a local shoe repair shop! Now they’re as good as new 😊
My favorite lipstick color, and one I rarely wear on a school day but I told myself “why not?” and decided to put some on. It’s from Wet n’ Wild so its super cheap, and it’s matte, which is how I like my lipsticks.
P.S. I love saying “lippie”, it makes me feel so British 😝 lol
Last night I modeled in my schools African Student Association’s Fall Ball! Was so happy Nkechi (my little sister) was able to come and so thankful to her for doing my hair. Check out the photos I took!
Ever since I saw the commercials for Euphoria, I’ve been curious of what it smells like. So I went in blind and purchased it on amazon for a discounted price! It smells guuuud, I recommend it for any woman looking for a subtle and sweet fragrance 😁
So I went to the mall today looking to buy both heroine (the lipstick guys lol) and a nude from MAC. Friends and family had warned me about MAC employees and their poor customer service but I went in anyway. I was sad to report those rumors were true and no one would wait on me, despite their being 4 employees in the store and only 3 customers. I left and went to Macy’s where I purchased this Clinique nude lippie called “Nude Beach” and I’m happy to say the service was 100% better 😊 ANYWAYS, how does it look?
